Born Again

A present at Christmas many years ago from my brother Stanley and his wife was most precious. It was a New Testament. Not having been brought up in a Christian home I was very dark regarding the Gospel. Stanley had been saved a few years previous and it was then I saw a great change in him. Before he was saved, and not married, we used to drink quite often together and sometimes with our other brother Garry. When Stanley got saved he would go up to the bedroom and pray for all the family. A few years later Garry got saved also and married a Christian girl. She is now at home with the Lord.

My brothers and I all served in HM Forces during the 2nd World War for different lengths of time. In God's mercy all came home safe, each having gone through some tough times. I was in the Navy and the ship I served aboard was sunk by enemy action, a mine. Many were killed and injured in a terrible explosion, but God spared me.

Stanley and his wife not only prayed for me but also invited me to Mount Pottinger Baptist Church, Belfast. The Pastor at that time was T.J. McNabb, who was a faithful man of God.

I would say that from the start I came under deep conviction of sin. Eighteen months later, by my bedside, on an Easter Sunday night in 1955, I lifted my eyes to Calvary's Cross, to Jesus Christ. I repented and confessed my sin and was cleansed in His precious blood.

In the same Church I met Mabel, the girl that was to become my wife. Pastor T.J. McNabb married us in 1958. We have one daughter who is married, and two granddaughters.

My wife and I are members of Bethel and have enjoyed many years of fellowship and ministry of God's Word.
